The festival of Corpus is the main celebration of the city. Each year, it begins on a Saturday at midnight with the alumbrao, the lighting of thousands of bulbs at the entrance, and ends the following Saturday with a fireworks display.

With over five hundred years of history, these Corpus festivities were first held under royal mandate. They are part of the most joyful traditions preserved by the city and have historically served as a break from the daily life of the people of Granada, fostering days of healthy coexistence and fun.

Granada smells of Corpus and is dressed for Corpus during these days when a complete range of cultural events, among which the bullfighting festivities stand out, coexists with the ornate booths and exhilarating swings of the fairground.

The fair atmosphere can be enjoyed both day and night. The sight of elegant horse-drawn carriages filled with people dressed in traditional regional costumes, the flamenco ambiance, the booths, and all their decorations carefully attended to down to the last detail.

In the Granada fair, unlike others, public booths are interspersed with private ones so that visitors can access each one freely.

Throughout the week that the fair lasts, two processions should be highlighted that traverse the main streets of the city:

Every Wednesday of the fair, mid-morning, La Tarasca, a mannequin dressed in the clothes that will be in fashion for the upcoming season, parades through the city atop a fierce dragon that seems to be subdued at its feet. Thus, the best-kept secret, until its unveiling, is the outfit that will be worn that day. La Tarasca can be said to be the pagan counterpoint to the religious festival.

The grand celebration of Granada is organized around Thursday, the day of Corpus Christi, when the entire city fills the streets to witness the procession of the Blessed Sacrament of the altar.

The Sunday of the week following the Corpus celebration, a small procession is held around the Cathedral, known as the Octava del Corpus.

Here we leave you the complete official program so you can attend all the organized activities:
