The already large Classic Film Festival of Granada, Retroback, returns in its seventh edition and it does so taking Gary Cooper as the centerpiece of this year’s edition, following the great myths and characters of previous editions, from Audrey Hepburn to Ava Gardner, through Humprey Bogart, Marlon Brando to celluloid myths like Dracula.
There will be a total of 47 classic films, almost all in original format, that will be screened in the different cycles of the festival, which this year hosts several, among them one dedicated to showing the ins and outs of cinema, especially Hollywood with the retrospective “Cinema within cinema.”
‘FANTASÍA RETROBACK: Animal Threat‘ is the title of another cycle, which will address everyday or superhuman beasts that in some way man made to vent their worst instincts on the human race. Titles like ‘The Birds‘ or ‘Alien‘ or ‘Planet of the Apes‘ will be some of the classics we will see in Cinema 2000.
Contemporary classics will be represented with ‘Reservoir Dogs‘ or ‘Smoke‘ among others, while there will be a cycle dedicated to the ‘Nouvelle Vague‘, one of the most influential cinematic movements in the history of the seventh art, and another on the relationship of cinema, jazz and blues, where we can see titles like ‘Bird’, ‘The Man with the Golden Arm’ or ‘Angel Heart’ among others.
The program will also feature a tribute to the film and television composer Antón García Abril, Gold Medal of the Spanish Film Academy, with a concert by the City Orchestra of Granada, which will perform some of his classics such as the soundtrack of ‘Golden Rings’ or ‘Man and Earth’.
As in previous editions, Retroback will offer a tapas route and will include street activities related to Gary Cooper and a cocktail set in the western.
